The Story
On a visit to London during the later months of 2007, I stopped over at the home of our dear friends Justin and Charlotte Wheatley. Justin would never admit to it, but it is true to say he is most certainly a multi talented man. Leading a busy and active life in the world of business he still manages to set time to one side for his hobbies of painting and making music.
I asked Justin if he would write a song for our Gesar album to which he immediately replied 'give me a title.' I suggested Boy Soldier and two weeks later the track was written and produced in his well equipped home studio. Needless to say, Dorje and I were delighted. Justin is a doer, he did not drag his feet and being fully aware of the plight of many children in our world he silently got on with the job in hand.
The beauty of Boy Soldier is not simply in the story it tells or the questions it asked but also in the way that it became a family production. Justin asked his nieces to come stay for a weekend so they too could take part by adding backing vocals and a good time was had by all.
We are so grateful to Charlotte, Justin and their two sons Anthony and Jonathon and of course to the boy's cousins for their achievement. The Wheatley's are a fine example of a close and devoted family who wish to help others. We wish all to enjoy Boy Soldier and to think of its meaning and the very real story written into the lyrics.
From the bottom of our heart's, thank you again to the Wheatley's and congratulation's for a wonderful team effort.
The pictures above show Justin holding onto an escaping Charlotte and two of Justin's biggest fan's, Pawo and Kate Fereday Eshete waving to him from the boy's soccer pitch at Arbatu Ensesa.
With much love to you all

Lyrics for Boy Soldier
Written by Justin Wheatley
Sung by Justin Wheatley and his nieces
Produced and recorded by Justin Wheatley
Can you tell me why do we
Damage our children,
Abuse and ruin them?
Can you help me understand why
We hurt our children,
Crush and bruise them?
Boy Soldier of Ethiopia
Did they break your will,
Make you fight and make you kill?
Child minor of Samalia
Do you dig to forget
Your life of dark regret?
Give hope to our children
Lets give love a chance
Let the children sing and dance
Give hope to our children
Make the world a better place
Put a smile on every face
Boy Soldier of Ethiopia
Did they break your will,
Make you fight and make you kill?
Child minor of Somalia
Do you dig to forget
Your life of dark regret?
Give hope to our children
Lets give love a chance
Let the children sing and dance
Give hope to our children
Make the world a better place
Put a smile on every face.
